One of the most alarming side effects of stress is the emergence of cravings, particularly for high-calorie, comfort foods. Disturbances in their balance can lead to increased hunger and cravings, making it even more challenging for individuals to resist high-calorie foods.

Even with awareness of these processes, breaking the cycle of stress-induced cravings and weight gain is not easy. Strategies to manage stress are critical for tackling this issue. Mindfulness practices, such as meditation or yoga, can help reduce stress levels and thus diminish cravings. Regular physical activity is another important countermeasure, as exercise releases endorphins, promoting a positive mood and helping to alleviate stress.
